The Kibingo washing station sits at an altitude of 1,893m, close to the Congo-Nile Crest in the Kayanza district of Burundi. The washing station is known for its wooden bridge that was built over the river that runs through it. The name 'Kibingo' comes from the Kirundi word urubingo which means 'reeds'. Reeds were planted along the river to contain the water and to prevent the surrounding soils from eroding.

This washing station collects cherries from over 2,750 local coffee farmers spread over the 18 neighbouring collines. During the harvest season, Kibingo processes more than 650 tons of coffee.

 

Filter / Pour Over

We used our trusty V-60 brewers, but you can roll with whatever you’re comfortable with.

Coffee: 18g 
Water: 300g at 96°C 
Grind: medium coarse (a bit coarse than table salt) 

1. Rinse your filter paper and add your coffee 
2. Bloom for 30 seconds, using 50g of your water. Give the slurry a quick stir 
3. Slowly add the remaining water, pouring in a circular motion, moving from the centre to the edge of the brewer 
4. Once you’ve finished pouring, give the brewer a single, gentle stir
